Gastrophryne olivacea
Status Common in far south Katy near Richmond, have not seen in Cypress Notes A small plump toad with a narrow snout/mouth that can be a variety of colors from light brown, gray, or greenish.  Does not have the dark colored back like the Eastern Narrowmouth Toad.  Found near water and along bayou easements in large numbers after rains in the summer.  Also commonly called the Great Plains Narrowmouth Toad. Voice/call Call is somewhat insect like and when you are in an area where both Eastern and Western Narrow-Mouthed Toads occur the call can help distinguish between the two..
(Western Narrow-Mouthed Toad)
