Eumeces (Plestiodon) fasciatus
Status Common throughout Katy and Cypress Texas Notes Juveniles are black with blue and white or yellow lines along the body and a blue to purple tail.  Adults turn more of a brown to olive coloration with males displaying a reddish head during mating season (pictures of adults will be loaded soon).  Found mostly in wooded areas but also enters home gardens.  This species can bite in defense but is not likely to break human skin.
